Addressing the climate crisis requires all stakeholders in society to take action. Investors have a critical role in the transition to the low-carbon economy and are assuming an increasingly important role in pushing companies to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and increase their sustainability targets. Given their influence, investors can be an important voice in policy discussions around climate change and the transition to a low-carbon economy. The dialogue between investors and policymakers needs to gain increasing strength as policy action is an indispensable component in enabling investors to become key allies in the fight against climate change.
In this event, we will explore the different mechanisms investors can use to engage in the decision-making processes of the G7 and G20 and the dialogues around COP26. The FAIRR Initiative will present concrete examples of its role in bridging the investor and policy landscape by raising awareness of the material risks in animal agriculture and how action on animal agriculture can reduce emissions and other environmental and human health risks. The event will invite investors, policymakers and thought leaders to share other successful examples of engagement between investors and governments, identify existing roadblocks and highlight opportunities for further action.
We will finalise by presenting a new global investor statement highlighting the critical need to reduce the global GHG emissions from the animal agriculture sector and the opportunities presented by COP26 to foreground protein production and consumption in the climate conversation.
