PRI Side-Event - FAIRR Investor Breakfast - hosted by Fiona Reynolds

Toronto

Intensive agriculture systems are a major contributor to the climate crisis with the current global food sector accounting for around 30% of total human-produced emissions.  In addition, our current food system is the primary driver of biodiversity loss, with agriculture alone being the identified threat to 86% of species at risk of extinction. However, the food system has an important and critical role in climate change mitigation and in protecting biodiversity. Properly managed soils provide carbon storage and more sustainable practices and diets are key elements of climate and nature solutions.

As we approach COP16 and COP29, it is clear that investor action taken to meet the twin climate and biodiversity crises must address the future of the food system. This session will bring together investors and corporations to explore ways in which investors can play a key role in decarbonising the food sector and protecting biodiversity by influencing the largest companies through their investment practices. It will also discuss challenges and opportunities faced by leading food companies to raise their ambitions on the transition towards more sustainable food production and consumption. Finally, the session will set anticipations and opportunities for investors to integrate the food systems agenda in preparation for the biodiversity and climate COPs taking place this year.

We invite you to join this investor networking breakfast organised by FAIRR and hosted by FAIRR President Fiona Reynolds. This will be a unique opportunity to meet the FAIRR team, network with investor members of FAIRR and hear from a panel of experts providing their views on how the food system connects to the climate and nature agenda. The panel will be moderated by Sofía Condés.
