Declan joined FAIRR in 2024 as an ESG Analyst Intern in the Coller FAIRR Protein Producer Index team, focusing on the renewal of the Index methodology and working on the Food Safety risk factor.

Working at FAIRR

Declan supports the development and implementation of the Coller FAIRR Protein Producer Index, focusing on identifying the ESG scores of companies within the Index, with a particular emphasis on food safety. Through a rigorous combination of quantitative and qualitative research, Declan contributes to the creation of the Index, providing valuable insights into the critical risks and opportunities facing the meat, dairy, and aquaculture sectors. Declan's research helps to drive improved engagement and stewardship outcomes for investor members by enhancing their understanding of ESG-related challenges and opportunities in these industries.

Experience

Declan holds a BSc in Biomedical Science from Cardiff University and an MSc in Climate Change Finance and Investment from the University of Edinburgh, where he specialised in investment strategies and policies aimed at facilitating the transition towards decarbonisation.

His BSc dissertation explored innovative approaches to reducing antimicrobial resistance by introducing predator species, such as zooplankton, into environments to target and consume parasitic species like Fasciola hepatica during its intermediate stage, thereby mitigating the spread of the parasite to cattle and sheep in the agricultural sector.

As a Commodities Analyst at Nestlé, Declan completed a four-month project focused on analysing the physical and transitional risks of climate change in the commodities market, with a specific emphasis on coffee. This work involved forecasting the potential future opportunities and risks that climate change may present to the global coffee market under various Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios.
